Apuna Description
Left or right, up or down, fast or slow? So many choices when you are on a bike. But when the paved road ends, with a road bike the choice is clear. Scarab understands the joy of blurring that line, giving you the ability to deviate away to where the pavement becomes brittle. Right there where the road turns into a path is where the Apüna come to life. Based on the design of road bike but with the ability to clear higher volume tires, the Scarab Apüna will take you to places never dreamed of on a road bike.It is fast, agile and aggressive.
Scarab took inspiration from the Colombian ethnic group in La Guajira, the Wayuu, and named its all road model Apüna, meaning trail or path in their language.
The Apüna benefits from the added stiffness of the ovalized Columbus steel tubing selection, creating a solid and responsive platform without sacrificing the comfort provided by steel. Added clearance allows for widths between 700Cx28 to 38 and further options of up to 650Bx35 to 42.

Introduction: The Importance of Tires in Cycling
Tires are essential for any bike, acting as the main contact with the terrain. Different cycling disciplines have been defined by their intended terrain—Track, Road, Gravel, Mountain. Recently, tire sizes have expanded within these disciplines, giving riders more options to tailor their bikes for specific terrains and preferences, which ultimately enhances their experience. -
Scarab’s Philosophy on Product Lineup
At Scarab Cycles, our bikes are designed to span major cycling disciplines. We see the overlaps between models as a benefit, allowing one bike to be suitable for multiple uses. For instance, the Andes and Apüna models can perform across similar terrains but provide unique riding experiences due to their distinct features. -
Tires as a Guide in Choosing Models
We believe in offering a range of tire options and have created a guide to help riders select the right bike for their terrain and riding style. -
Bike Selection Process: Versatility and Terrain
Our process starts by identifying the primary terrain and tire size for the rider's main use, then expands to other intended uses. This Ideal Range approach helps riders select a model that can handle varied scenarios while excelling in its primary function. -
Meaningful Conversations with Riders
We ask specific questions to understand each rider's goals, including their current bikes and limitations. This insight allows us to recommend a bike with the right tire range and features for each rider's unique needs, blending modern tire flexibility with the individuality of each frame.
