Scarab Cycles: A Tribute to Colombian Cycling Excellence

Scarab Cycles: A Tribute to Colombian Cycling Excellence

Just like all cycling enthusiasts, we have enjoyed every second of this edition of Giro d'Italia 2024, with a great performance by Tadej Pogacar where each stage has given us a great show being by far the best cyclist of the Giro d'Italia. But today we are not going to talk about the Slovenian cyclist, who undoubtedly deserves a great article, but we came to talk about Colombia and its "Escarabajos" or beetles.

We rarely talk about where our name Scarab Cycles came from, but our Escarabajos speak for themselves around the world.

Cyclists like Luis Herrera, Fabio Parra and the current ones like Egan Bernal, Nairo Quintana and Rigoberto Uran, and obviously we have to mention the great Daniel Felipe Martínez and Einer Rubio who are giving a great show in the Giro d'Italia 2024, showing why they call us Los Escarabajos.

The "Escarabajos": A Legacy of Tenacity and Excellence

The "Escarabajos" are a generation of Colombian cyclists who have left an indelible mark on the history of world cycling. This term, which was initially used in a derogatory way to refer to Colombian cyclists due to our small size and tenacity, has been transformed into a symbol of pride and excellence in the sport. The history of the Escarabajos is a saga of overcoming, resistance, and success that begins in the mountains of Colombia and extends to the podiums of the most prestigious races in the world.

Los Escarabajos have not only been ambassadors of Colombian cycling, but also of the country's culture and spirit. Their story is one of perseverance in the face of adversity, love for sport, and national pride.

Scarab Cycles: Embracing Colombian Spirit and Craftsmanship

That is why the name Scarab Cycles was born.

We want to reflect the pride of our country, but also the entrepreneurial, persevering, and passionate spirit that characterizes us. We come from a country where handcrafted goods speak of our culture, and we wanted to capture that in our bicycles. Our bikes are 100% imagined and manufactured in our workshop. From design, fabrication and painting, it all happens under the same roof. By doing this, we are able to control every aspect of the process, ensuring the highest quality and attention to detail possible.

Our “Escarabajo” bike, created in 2023 for our fifth anniversary, shows the great work we have achieved in these last 5 years, reflecting the passion for art, cycling, and strong roots to our country’s traditions.

Our Mission

Our mission at Scarab Cycles is to create bicycles that inspire, empower, and embody the spirit of Colombian cycling. We want to share our passion for the sport with the world and celebrate the incredible achievements of Colombian cyclists.
