Chiva
First seen in Colombia in the first half of the 20th century, the Chiva, a multi-colored bus ,came to symbolize the interrupted infrastructure of the agrarian countryside, where roads are rough and pavement is scarce. Painted like the buses in the open air, the detailed work of the Chiva bike is all done by hand, pencil and brush.
The painting process involves different stages. It all starts with us spraying the background colors and color panels. Then the frame gets to hands of Fernando, an actual chiva painter, who brings a family legacy of artists dedicated to decorate and give life to these unique buses. Fernando, who adds his magic and inspiration “on the go” pinstriping, gives a unique personality to every bike. The frame then comes back to Scarab to be clear coated to protect the beautiful art made by Fernando.
